The best kayaks for bigger anglers

By Jay Valentin · Thursday, October 1, 2026

My buddy Andrew Blair put out a video this week on his favorite fishing kayaks for bigger anglers. Really solid list, and if you are shopping right now, go watch the whole thing.

I pulled all 10 of his picks together here so you can see them in one spot.

Quick note on weight capacity

Every manufacturer calculates it differently. Some include the weight of the kayak in that number and some do not, and there is no industry standard, unfortunately. The numbers below are what each brand publishes, which is the best info out there. Where a brand like Old Town lists a usable capacity too, I added it.

Here are Andrew's picks, in the order he covers them.

NuCanoe Unlimited

1. NuCanoe Unlimited

$1,899.00

Capacity: 650 lbs

12'6" long and 41 inches wide, with an 84 lb hull that is the lightest on this list. Most affordable boat here too.

NuCanoe Unlimited MAX

2. NuCanoe Unlimited MAX

$2,499.00

Capacity: 750 lbs

The bigger version at 13'6" by 42 inches. Rated for up to a 5 HP motor or 100 lbs of thrust if you plan on motorizing.

Native Watercraft TitanX Propel 12.5

3. Native Watercraft TitanX Propel 12.5

$3,194.10

Capacity: 500 lbs

Pedal drive boat, 40 inches wide. Heads up that the 12.5 in the name is not the length. It is actually 12'8", which matters for your rack or trailer.

Bonafide XTR130

4. Bonafide XTR130

$2,654.10

Capacity: 750 lbs

12'7" by 40.5 inches with a 15 inch deck height, so you sit up high. It is about 170 lbs rigged, so plan on a trailer.

Wilderness Systems Tactical Pro 128

5. Wilderness Systems Tactical Pro 128

$2,599.00

Capacity: 800 lbs

Highest capacity rating on Andrew's list. 12'8" by 38 inches, with internal battery storage that keeps the weight low and centered.

Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14

6. Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14

$4,999 MSRP

Capacity: 600 lbs

13'8" by 38 inches with Hobie's pedal drive. The Vantage seat is rated to 350 lbs on its own, which is a nice detail for bigger guys. Eco does not carry this one, so the link goes straight to Hobie.

Jackson Big Rig FD

7. Jackson Big Rig FD

$2,379.15

Capacity: 550 lbs

Jackson calls this their highest capacity solo kayak. 13'3" by 40 inches, with the pedal drive included at this price.

Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO

8. Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO

$1,999.99

Capacity: 540 lbs  ·  438 lbs usable (per Old Town)

This is the one I ride. 12' by 36 inches, and Old Town is one of the few brands that lists a usable number right on the spec sheet.

Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 PRO

9. Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 PRO

$3,499.00

Capacity: 565 lbs  ·  420 lbs usable (per Old Town)

The pedal drive version of the 120 PRO. Same 12' by 36 inch footprint, with the PDL drive doing the work so your hands stay free.

Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136

10. Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136

$4,999.99

Capacity: 660 lbs  ·  502 lbs usable (per Old Town)

13'6" with the motor built right in, so you are not adding a separate battery and trolling motor on top of everything else.

Andrew goes a lot deeper on each of these in the video, including hull shape, seat height and how rigging changes what your boat can carry. Worth the watch if you are close to pulling the trigger on one.

BRAG BOARD

Michael Wasson

Michael Wasson on a loaded Native Titan at sunrise in Central Texas

Michael posted this out of Central Texas this week. His words: long hot summer, ready for cooler weather and some good fall bass fishing. Same, brother.

Also worth pointing out given what this issue is about. That is a Native Titan, and look how loaded it is. Four rods, crate, sonar, battery, paddle. Every bit of that counts against the same number we were just talking about.

Got a shot or a fish worth showing off? Post it in the Kayak Fishing Dads group and you might end up here next week.
